nephrotic syndrome causes , NS vs glomerulonephritis

according to causes of nephrotic syndrome

membranous nephropathy

adenocarcinoma , NSAID use , hepatitis B , SLE

membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis

hepatitis B , hepatitis C , lipodystrophy

focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

black people , hispanics , obese , HIV , heroin use

minimal change disease

NSAID use , lymphoma (hodgkin)

IgA nephropathy

URI(upper respiratory tract infection)

nephrotic syndrome vs glomerulonephritis

glomerulonephritis is inflammation -subsequent damage of glomeruli lead to proteinurea , hematuria , azotemia , as comparison:

Glomerulonephritis :
1-hematuria,proteinuria, hypertension , school age , male
2-causes : primary renal disease , post streptococcal PSGN
3-glomerular change : immune complex occlude glomeruli
4-sign/symptoms : edema , urine discoloration ,lethargy
5-treatment : anti-hypertension , diuretics
6-good prognosis , recurrence rare

nephrotic syndrome :
1-proteinurea ,hypoalbuminemia ,edema , hypovolemia , age 2-7yrs , males
2-causes : idiopathic , glomerular damage , congenital
3-glomerular change : membrane damage cause permeability to protein/albumin
4-weight gain , fatigue , edema , decrease U/O
5-treatment : corticosteroid
6-prognosis 80% favorable , but relapses
